How to Enjoy That Summer BBQ Without Derailing Your Fitness
Summer BBQs are one of the best parts of the season. Great food, good company, and sunshine – what's not to like? But if you’re working on your fitness, it’s easy to feel like you have to choose between progress and fun. The truth is, you can enjoy every bite and still stay aligned with your goals. We’re here to show you how.
- Build a balanced plate
Start with a good source of protein like grilled chicken, fish, or a lean burger. Add fresh veggies or fruit and then include a side or two you love. Be intentional and indulge only in the thing you love the most.
- Don’t skip meals before
Arriving starving usually means overeating. Eat balanced meals earlier in the day to keep blood sugar steady and your mindset focused.
- Move your body that day
Start your morning with a workout at National Fitness, or take a studio class to set the tone. It doesn’t need to be intense, just getting some movement in makes a difference. Bonus tip: go for a walk when you get home to or after your meal to balance your blood sugar.
- Stay hydrated
Drinking water throughout the day helps with energy, digestion, and curbing unnecessary cravings. If you’re enjoying cocktails, alternate each one with water.
One BBQ won’t ruin your progress, just like you can’t do one workout and all of a sudden reach your goals. Keep showing up, stay consistent, and enjoy the moment while you’re in it.
