Lost Motivation After Vacation? 8 Easy Tips to Get Back Into Your Fitness Routine
Getting back on track after a vacation can be tough. You might feel unmotivated and lethargic, which can throw you off your normal routine. You might mentally still be sipping piña coladas on the beach, but your body is begging you to bounce back. But how?
1. Get Moving
You can start by taking mini walks around your neighborhood or around your local park. Add some stretching in because getting your body moving is the best place to start.
2. Identify Your Distractors
Pinpoint what is holding you back. Is it fatigue? Try going to bed earlier. Constant phone scrolling? Try putting your phone in another room while you're trying to focus. Once you have an understanding, it is much easier to change your habits and say no to the distractions.
3. Set Realistic Mini Goals
If you were working out at an intense level before you left for vacation, it might be a little harder to jump right back in at the same level. Set mini goals and gradually add more as you feel up to it. For example, commit to three workouts a week instead of the five you were doing before.
4. Fuel Your Body Right
Eating on vacation can disrupt your eating schedule completely, leaving you with low energy. Your energy is going to come from how you fuel your body. Make sure you're fueling right to gain back the energy, and the motivation will come soon after.
5. Grab a Friend
Invite a friend to come with you to your next workout. It’s nice having support and an external motivator to get you out of your slump.
6. Be Intentional
Being intentional with your fitness journey is important too. Setting aside time throughout your week to work out and sticking to it helps rebuild your commitment to yourself. It also helps you remember your goal and why you are on this fitness path.
7. Compassion
Accepting that you might not be where you were before your vacation and that’s okay! Understand that it might take time to get back to your routine. Be graceful to yourself so long as you keep moving forward and acting on that self-compassion.
8. Listen to a Podcast
Motivational podcasts can help you reset your mindset and reignite your drive after a vacation. A quick episode can remind you of your goals and make it easier to get back into your routine.
